School Counseling Connection - October 2026
Friendships grow over time and with support. Tips for handling social conflict include: pause and cool down by taking a deep breath before reacting; use 'I' statements to share feelings instead of blaming; listen carefully without interrupting; and brainstorm solutions together so both feel heard and respected. Recommended books on friendship include: Be a Friend by Salina Yoon, Better Together by Chloe Douglass, My Best Friend, Sometimes by Naomi Danis, One by Kathryn Otoshi, and Better Than You by Trudy Ludwig.

School Nurse - Medical Diagnosis and Medication Updates
If your child has received a new medical diagnosis or has started a new medication (even if it's not taken at school), please let the school nurse know. Having a complete understanding of your child's health helps the nurse watch for possible side effects, understand and support changes in behavior, and keep your child safe and healthy at school.

School Counseling Connection - September
Tips for talking with your child about school: Ask specific questions like 'what felt easy today?' 'what's something you learned?' or 'who did you sit with at lunch?' instead of 'how was school?' Give them time to open up, and try again later when they may be more ready to share, such as during snack time or bedtime. Recommended books for separation anxiety: The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn, Jasper Lizard Wants to Stay Home by Ashley Bartley, When I Miss You by Cornelia Maude Spelman.
