Gertrude C. Folwell Elementary School

Fourth graders completed a 'Best Part of Me' writing project where they reflected on a special part of themselves and explained why it makes them unique. Students used descriptive details, personal experiences, and thoughtful writing to share what makes that part of them important. This project, created by Mr. Kerr and Mrs. Mayoros, was a wonderful opportunity for students to celebrate their individuality while learning more about their classmates.

Reading Buddies program pairs 4th graders with 2nd graders for monthly meetings. The program got off to a great start with students reading outside during their first meeting.

Students are not permitted to eat, drink, or chew gum throughout the school building, except for eating lunch in the cafeteria or teacher-approved snacks in the classroom. All soda and energy drinks (Prime, Redbull, Rockstar, Monster, etc.) are prohibited during the school day and will be confiscated if brought to school. Water, seltzer, and milk are recommended drinks for school lunches.

Due to possible disruption of the instructional day, birthday celebration items must be limited to NON-FOOD items that can be distributed at the end of the day per the homeroom teacher's discretion. Cakes, cookies, donuts, and snacks are NOT permitted and will not be distributed to other students.

Folwell students are not permitted to keep cell phones, smart watches, AirPods, or other non-school-issued personal electronics on or with them during the school day. All devices should be turned off and kept in bookbags. The school and home should work together to provide an educational environment with minimal distractions.

ARRIVAL: No student should arrive before 7:45 AM as there is no supervision before that time. Breakfast is available starting at 7:45 AM. Please use the back loop to drop off your student in the morning. For childcare before 7:45 AM, register with EDC using the provided link. DISMISSAL: The school has rolled out a new dismissal routine that continues to improve daily. Please remember to properly mark how your student is getting home and communicate as early as possible with their teacher or the main office if your regular routine is changing.

A beverage guidance initiative promoting healthy drink choices. Red (Drink Rarely, If At All): Regular sodas, energy or sports drinks, fruit drinks. Yellow (Drink Occasionally): Diet soda, low-calorie/low-sugar drinks, 100% juice. Green (Drink Plenty): Water, seltzer water, skim or 1% milk.

Surprise attendance days will be held in the upcoming weeks. Any class with perfect attendance on those days will move along the base path. Homerooms will be rewarded every time they cross home plate. Features a baseball/sports theme.
