National School Bus Safety Week
Cinnaminson School District will join school communities across the country in recognizing National School Bus Safety Week, October 19–23, 2026. This annual observance is an opportunity to celebrate the important role school transportation plays in our students’ daily lives and to remind our entire community that school bus safety is everyone’s responsibility. This year’s theme, “Safe Rides, Everyday Heroes,” highlights the students, families, drivers, educators, and community members who work together to make each school-day journey safe.
Each day, millions of students rely on school buses to travel safely to and from school. We encourage our students to do their part by listening to their bus driver, remaining seated, keeping the aisles clear, using handrails, and following all bus safety expectations. Families can help by reviewing safe practices with their children and reminding them that the bus stop is a place to wait calmly, stay alert, and follow directions.
Safety also extends beyond the bus. Motorists play a critical role in protecting our students by slowing down in school zones, eliminating distractions, and stopping when a school bus is displaying its flashing red lights and extended stop arm. Illegal passing of stopped school buses continues to be a significant safety concern, making it especially important for everyone in our community to remain alert and follow the law.
Safety Starts at the Bus Stop
Arrive at the bus stop at least five minutes before the scheduled arrival time.
Wait calmly and stay away from the roadway.
Never run, push, or play near the bus stop.
Wait for the bus to come to a complete stop before approaching.
Getting On and Off the Bus
Use the handrails when entering and exiting the bus.
Wait for the driver’s direction before crossing in front of the bus.
Stay in the driver's line of sight and remain aware of traffic.
Never walk behind a school bus.
If you drop something near the bus, tell the driver rather than attempting to retrieve it yourself.
Be Safe on the Bus
Remain seated while the bus is moving.
Keep hands, arms, and belongings inside the bus.
Keep the aisles clear of backpacks and other items.
Use a seat belt when one is available.
Use a quiet voice and avoid distracting the driver.
Follow the bus driver's directions and all school bus rules.
Let's work together to make every ride a safe ride for our students. During National School Bus Safety Week—and throughout the entire school year—thank you to our bus drivers, transportation staff, families, students, and community members for being everyday heroes who help keep our children safe.
